Kayla Foster is a senior Mass Communications major at Rust College in Holly Springs, Mississippi.
Originally from Memphis, Tennessee, she graduated from one of the top charter schools in Memphis, the Memphis Academy of Science and Engineering, and decided to further her education on a full ride scholarship to Rust College.
Since being accepted into Rust, she has flourished and expanded her skills in the Mass Communications field, finding it easy to complete scholastic work and adjust to the work of internships, work/study, and her own personal development projects.
“Rust has equipped me to soar into the world and leave a blueprint in the places that poured into my talents and molded my character into what it is today,” she says.
Since being at Rust, she has participated in multiple organizations including the Student Government Association, where she currently serves as the Student Executive Media Specialist; Active Minds Mental Health Organization; Campus Activities Board; and the BRA Movement, a women empowerment group where we uplift one another. Apart from on-campus activity, she has worked diligently to leave a mark on the community around her as well.
She has had internships with the local radio station, WKRA 92.7 The Change; digital magazine InsideHolly Magazine; and is now working with Ending Racism USA to help evolve communities through the analyzation of the U.S. Constitution.
“Working with Ending Racism USA has allowed me to share a space not only where I am accepted, but where my point of view and opinions have pertinent value in the workplace,” says Foster.
After graduating, she would like to continue to pursue her education to receive her Masters from Ole Miss.
