With Black history scholars and scholarship under attack, this is a critical time to expose college students, and everyone else, to what researchers are discovering and sharing about Black history.

Ending Racism USA is working with The Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) to facilitate events on university and college campuses so students can view livestreamed sessions from ASALH’s 108th Annual Conference in September 2023.

Brenda Girton-Mitchell on why ASALH matters

My childhood memories about race were formed by lessons shared at home and in church.

The stories we heard about being colored, Negro, Black, and African American were viewed through the lens of faith. No matter what white people said about our race, we were children of God and that made us special.

I was an adult before I realized the inadequacy of my knowledge and understanding of Black history and began to do my own work. ASALH is a trusted resource for educational information on the accomplishments of Black people.

Cynthia Bond Hopson on why ASALH matters

Reading the biography of Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune in third grade sparked my love for history.

Back then there was very little Black or Negro history available so every picture and book was precious, therefore, collecting images and facts fairly and accurately and providing context and insight for the who, what, why, and how events transpired has never been more important.

I'm proud that ASALH historians and scholars carefully gather, preserve, record, and help us understand that African American history is American history in all its glory and tumult.
