Brian J. Backe
Brian Backe, MBA, is executive director of the Center for Nonprofit Leaders.
His personal mission is to help leaders and organizations as they strive to eliminate world-wide poverty, promote social and economic justice, and build a better world. Addressing important local and global issues requires skilled, “servant leaders” who have the ability to deploy the most creative solutions available. His focus is helping all leaders who are seeking to find balance between purpose, productivity, and people, including serving their own staff and volunteers. He is especially interested in supporting the next generation of emerging leaders as they strive to save this planet and the people who live here.
He currently serves as a strategic advisor to nonprofit boards and a coach for nonprofit leaders. He has 40 years of management and board service with small, mid-sized and very large nonprofits including: Carroll County Food Sunday (local food bank), Catholic Relief Services (global international development), Growing Hope Globally, Independent Sector, the National Governors’ Association (association of the US Governors), San Francisco State University, the Support Center (nonprofit management training), SERRV International (a fair trade nonprofit enterprise), Notre Dame Mission Volunteers & Franciscan Mission Service (Catholic volunteer-sending groups), the Monte Azul Foundation (youth agriculture in Puerto Rico), Caritas de Puerto Rico, and many others.
